Posted by Gurpreet Kaur in General on August 27th, 2008 |  No Comments »

It has been over weeks trying to find my brother accommodation for his second year of universiy at Kings College London. Vandalism Is Back In “The Area”

Posted by Gurpreet Kaur in General on August 26th, 2008 |  No Comments »

Well the area we live in currently I would describe it as “rough”, however to be fair over the past years the area has been improved by certain changes being made.

For example, a few weeks back a new rule was introduced in the area, where the police patrol will be roaming “the area” streets and fining those who cause anti-social behavior. If the youth is under 16 they will be escorted back home safely and the parents could be fined up to £2500, however if the youth is above 16 they will be fined up to £2500 and may serve time in jail for up to 3 months.

…and today morning the neighbourhood were all gathered outside. We went to have a look to see what was going on and saw that my neighbours car (BMW 3 series) had been graffittied on and acid thrown on it.

Gurpreet Attends An Amazing Kirtan Darbar

Posted by Gurpreet Kaur in General on August 25th, 2008 |  No Comments »

Yesterday I attended an amazing Kirtan Darbar that was set up in Southampton at Gurdwara Nanaksar to commemorate the 300 years of Guruship of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji (the living, eternal Guru).

The darbar was enlightened by Kirtan performed by various Ragi’s including;
-> The Hajoori Jatha of the Gurdwara (local Ragi’s)
-> Bhai Balwinder Singh Rangeela & Jatha (Kirtani’s)
-> Bhai Jagtar Singh Komal & Jatha (Kirtani’s)

Two lecturers also attended and spoke about Sri Guru Granth Sahib. One lecture (which was mind blowing) explained on how some people nowadays don’t accept Sri Guru Granth Sahib fully as “Pargat Guran Ki Deh”, meaning they don’t treat Sri Guru Granth Sahib in the same respect of a Guru. They don’t keep in mind that Sri Guru Granth Sahib is an eternal living Guru.

After the Kirtan and the lectures, Makhdoom Syed Chan Pir Qadri

Gurpreet Becomes a “Teacher”

Posted by Gurpreet Kaur in General on August 24th, 2008 |  No Comments »

…haha, well not quite a teacher, but yesterday I just saw my siblings, little sister (8) and little brother (7), looking absolutely bored with nothing to do. Especially when in the holidays they haven’t really been anywhere even though I promised them I would take them to Paultons Park, but the weather played up and couldn’t take them at all. Which was a shame really because they’ve just been sitting at home throughout the holidays. Poor things.

…So, yesterday I decided to get them both to sit down and make them write a story. Hmm..doesn’t sound too fun? but it’s amazing to see you they were extremely beyond excited and hyped up over hearing the fact of them having to write a story.

Gurpreet’s Offered A Partial Refund From DSA

Posted by Gurpreet Kaur in General on August 23rd, 2008 |  2 Comments »

…Today I recieved a letter through the post from the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) offering me a partial refund of a driving practical that was charged a higher (premium) fee for the tests that were taken

on Saturdays. (Meaning I qualify for the partial refund, :D, as my test was on a Saturday in 2005!). The partial refund is calculated by the difference between the fee I paid for the Saturday test in 2005, and the correct fee now. Which doesn’t seem to be much, but for me is a lot, :D - After all money doesnt grow on trees.

Gurpreet Seeks An External Hard Drive

Posted by Gurpreet Kaur in General on August 22nd, 2008 |  No Comments »

I’ve been looking for an external hard drive as I require it for my University projects this year as well as trying to shift all my folders, files, saved images, pictures, videos and music etc… onto the external hard drive and wanting to save memory on the laptop, so that I can back up all the data then send my laptop to be repaired.

I haven’t managed to find the right one just yet as I don’t want something big and bulky. I need something that is a reasonable size to carry around. Preferably with a USB cable attached rather than a huge plug. Maybe something similar to the one below;

Gurpreet Is Dissapointed At House Pricing

Posted by Gurpreet Kaur in General on August 21st, 2008 |  No Comments »

Right where do I start ?

We’ve been looking to move out of our current area believe it or not for up to nearly 8 years. Within those 8 years we haven’t found any property that matches our requirements, even after viewing them.

…Today we had an appointment to view a property, in a brilliant area just on the border line of Southampton and Chandeler’s Ford, a quiet little place called Valley Park.

The property seemed spacious but in fact once we viewed it from inside we were quite disappointed.

Well the first positive aspect we saw was the extreme silence and peacefulness the area offered as soon as we entered. Newly built houses with no one lurking around on the roads. Was exceptional, something that we were looking for. So that gave us a little boost of hope. The houses were all merged quite close together but were all detached. We kind of lost ourselves by going in circles (haha, was quite funny actually), until we saw the estate agent coming out of his car and waving at us. (:D sigh of relief, as we were already 5 minutes late).

I parked up the car just infront of the estate agent and found out that the house was actually around a corner which we failed to spot. (Another positive aspect, the house was by itself so there was the benefit of privacy :D)

Well the outside of the property looked amazing, new bricks, double garage, spacious driveway, permission to extend the house was agreed too. Looking from the outside of the property it looked promising. But like they say “never judge a book by it’s cover”, it was something similar to that once we viewed the interior layout.

The hallway, kitchen, 2 bedrooms and the garden were quite spacious to be fair, but the lounge room wasn’t as expected. Neither was the study room or the further two bedrooms of the house (they were TINY - barely could move around in them), so viewing them really dissapointed me and my parents :(.

…AND I personally beleive that the price of the whole property was NOT worth it. £425,000 (ERM, I DONT THINK SO).

Gurpreet Thinks Of Third Year Placement Options

Posted by Gurpreet Kaur in General on August 20th, 2008 |  No Comments »

I always intended in taking a placement year at University whilst studying my course. Placement year is usually the third year into the university academic years, where you take the year out and work for a company/industry/business being paid a fair amount of salary for the year. You then come back to complete final year (fourth year).

There are a lot ofbeneficial outcomes that you gain after the placement is complete. For example, many industries may offer you a job proposal for you to think about after completing graduation, if they are outstanded by the work and attitude you brought into the placement. Another crucial benefit I see is that the placement enhances your experience and knowledge of the real working atmosphere, which I believe is most important in building a career.

Gurpreet Is Introduced To The “PINsentry Card Reader”

Posted by Gurpreet Kaur in General on August 19th, 2008 |  2 Comments »

About a week ago I needed to make a transaction to another account using online banking, which I found that Barclays online banking system has changed and for security reasons you wont be able to log into online banking without using a PINsentry card reader.

I went into the Barclays branch and asked them why I require a PINsentry card reader for online banking and what is it exactly? The guy who explained didn’t do much of a good job. So I decided just to wait for the post. (Since the bank said within 3 days I would receive my card reader).

…Well for a few days the postman didn’t come into our area so our post wasn’t delivered. But today finally he managed to make it. (My gawsh missing the post for like 4 days is a lot, there were 27 letters that needed attention).

I finally got the PINsentry card reader, which seemed like a calculator to me to be honest. But it was important to read the user guide. It all seemed complicated when the assistant at the bank tried to explain about the reader and when in fact I found out it was extremely easy to use.

Yesterday my genius friend again showed me another amazing feature called twitter.

This feature allows you to send and read updates on your online blog, myspace, or even facebook by texting using your mobile. You can keep updating in “what you’re doing” despite the fact of where you are.
